For experienced cyclists, this is more of a refresher course but if you are new to cycling, these tips may prove quite useful. Choosing the right clip-in system is vital as it attaches your shoes to the pedal with cleats. A quick word about the available options.
Several brands have pedals and shoes for this. Most people end up buying products by Look®, Shimano® SPD-SL or Time®. The width of the pedal platform is obviously important for power transfer. In general, these brands are not that different from each other.
The Shimano® and Look® pedals are generally assumed to clip and unclip more easily but this is just a matter of habit. Time’s® cleats are considered more durable than the other two brands. The differences in terms of grip when walking are rather limited.
So it is impossible to give a yes or no answer. Everything will depend on your expectations and what happens when you test the shoes and pedals.
