After travelling across the world, writer Bill Bryson (Robert Redford) finds time for a trip back to his homeland, America. He chooses the Appalachian Trail, the world’s longest walking route which covers 3,500 km of American wilderness.
The only other person who is mad enough to take part is big grump, Katz (Nick Nolte), a childhood friend who he had lost contact with. Bill’s wife (Emma Thompson) is troubled by the fact that two untrained men are heading off on this challenging journey. And her concerns are justified. The two struggle with one another, nature and a long line of interesting travelling companions.
A Walk in the Woods is the first screen version of a hilarious travel tale from Bill Bryson (A Short History of Nearly Everything, Down Under, Notes From a Small Island).
