Like to listen to some music during practice?


Most people love them and some people wouldn’t dream of leaving the house without them. Others feel they prevent you from breathing properly or may be dangerous in traffic.  Everyone has an opinion about headphones but we have included a selection of what’s available on the market anyway.

Headphones

The best known ones are the traditional earbuds, the accessory that usually comes with your smartphone. A downside is that they tend to fall out easily when you’re exercising and they don’t work well when moist.

Type of athlete: Recreational athlete

In-ear earphones

These jam deeper into your ear canals and the sound quality is often better. On the downside, you may be cut off from your surroundings, which can be a problem in traffic. They are relatively cheap, which is a plus.

Type of athlete: Indoor athlete

Ear hook earphones

You don’t have to worry about these earphones coming off and usually they’re pretty affordable. They also deliver better sound quality.

Type of athlete: Regular athletes, who are looking for a more robust alternative

Neckband headphones

A popular option, lasts longer. The design fits snugly around your neck and is less of a hassle than a cable.

Type of athlete: athletes who walk, cycle or run regularly.

Over-the-ear models

Very popular with football players, but these headphones are gradually catching on in other disciplines too. The classic headphones with a band that rests on your head. Fit snugly and score well in terms of sound quality.

Type of athlete: for regular athletes who don’t spend much time in traffic.

Bone conduction headphones

A newer type of headphones that allow you to hear the sound of your music through the vibration of your bones. Place the two transducers behind your ears. A downside is the sound quality may not live up to your expectations.

Type of athlete: for athletes who have a fixed route along busy streets.
