Not every hardshell helmet is a good helmet

A good helmet will reduce your risk of serious head injuries if you fall while cycling. We all agree that children, senior citizens and athletes should definitely wear a helmet at all times. But what is a good cycling helmet? Touring conducted a thorough test of 10 helmets.

Helmet test

A good cycling helmet will protect you if you fall, is comfortable to wear and easy to use. More and more cyclists are taking to the streets with hardshell helmets. A hardshell helmet has a soft core with a sturdy and hard exterior that protects your head. In that sense, they are quite similar to motorcycling helmets.

Touring’s helmet test, however, revealed that a micro shell with EPS will disperse impact much better than these hardshell helmets. The EPS layer of these microshell helmets disperses the impact . The exterior is flexible.

Other

Testers were also not impressed by the comfort, wear, user-friendliness and visibility of these hardshell helmets. Finally, they also felt that the ventilation and adjustability of the straps could be improved.

An area in cycling apparel that is subject to constant innovation. In the meantime, safety first continues to be the first rule of cycling.
